The school crossing guards fall under the supervision of the Community Policing Unit (CPU). The crossing guards increase the safety of students walking to and from school. They are strategically placed in locations based on factors such as foot traffic, age of students, volume of vehicular traffic, and dangerousness of the crossings. Every year, just before school starts, the CPU provides the crossing guards with training regarding their job responsibilities. Throughout the school year, the CPU conducts numerous compliance checks to ensure that the crossing guards are fulfilling their job responsibilities.
